What Is a Mystery Box?
A mystery box is a product sold without revealing its exact contents in advance. Customers purchase the box with the excitement of discovering what’s inside when it arrives.
Transparency Matters
Even though the contents are a surprise, it's important that the seller provides clear information about:
- The types or categories of items included (e.g., electronics, toys, clothing)
- A clear instruction showing what the box contains from a Compliance, Customs and Legal perspective.
Product Compliance and Legal Requirements
All items included in a mystery box must comply with relevant product safety and legal regulations, including:
- CE marking (for products sold in the EU)
- Accurate product labeling and usage instructions
Restrictions on prohibited or counterfeit items - Compliance with consumer protection laws (e.g., return rights, warranty)
Customs Considerations
From a customs perspective, it is crucial that:
- The shipment is accurately declared, even if the exact contents vary
- A clear instruction showing what the box contains. Any restricted or prohibited items are excluded according to the destination country’s import rules.
Our recommendations are according to below:
- A clear list of articles integrated into the packaging print (if possible)
- A leaflet on the box and inside it
- The information needs to be in the product ad on the platform as well.
The box must contain exactly what is promised — nothing more, nothing less.
If any serious issue is found, it could lead to severe consequences, including fines or suspension. No articles can be in breach with law, regulations or CDON/Fyndiq rules, agreements and instructions.
